As you know, it's homecoming week at NHS. We are celebrating, too. Here are the dress-up days:
Monday- wear red and white Tuesday- wear a tie, bow or tye-dye. Wednesday- SR spirit day Thursday- Packer dress or favorite team! Friday- NO SCHOOL! Our class has enjoyed TWO celebrations for reaching our goals with road runner tickets. Students are doing a great job practicing and using expected behaviors at all locations. Please review expected behaviors with your student when possible. It is truly contributing to a better school atmosphere and learning environment. We celebrated with stuffed animal day and then a morning of chewing gum. Our next goal is a special snack that I will bring in to share. We are working towards 575 road runner tickets as a class. We currently have almost 300. Cheer us on! Thanks for your support!
*The road runner tickets are acknowledgements by staff members of expected behavior. Of course students don't always get one because they are expected to do good always but when we notice, we give them out. Ask your child if she got any today! It was a hot one!! Students thoroughly enjoyed a variety of stations involving team work, academic skills and physical activity. Our class is working on supporting each other and encouraging others no matter what! Thanks to all volunteers. Pictures to come!!
Students are so excited about a new app that we will be using called Seesaw. Students are able to create, express and upload their work and ideas. Ask your child about Seesaw and look forward to being able to access your child's individual, private site and all he or she has created/ shared. Questions? Just ask!
We're still easing in to our schedule! Here is what we're going to be learning!
Math: basic fact families and how numbers work together, using a variety of strategies and learning to express and share our ideas with others Word Work: learning how to sort/ categorize words based on spelling patterns and common chunks, working through a routine with words, short vowels, long vowels Reading: building stamina as readers, thinking while reading and recording ideas (questions, comments, connections, predictions, etc) Writing: meaningful topics for personal narratives, building stamina to write for a long period of time, planning a story, including details Science/ Social Studies: Junior Achievement will be starting soon! Activity Day is next week Thursday at school. Students will be participating in a variety of activities working as a team, practicing good sportsmanship, good manners and perseverance. We love volunteers and we need them for various things. If interested, check it out and sign up here.
https://signup.com/client/invitation2/secure/1997386/false#/invitation Have a great weekend! With our new school-wide positive behavior program, students are being acknowledged when they are doing expected behaviors with a road runner ticket. As always, students are expected to be safe, respectful and responsible. We have adopted a new Spring Road pledge which is said daily before the Pledge of Allegiance. "I am safe, respectful and responsible. It's the Rockin' Roadrunner Way!"
Our class set a goal of 50 cards by the end of the week. I was not surprised that we exceeded that by A LOT. We earned close to 300 as a class. Students chose to celebrate with a stuffed animal day. We have now set a higher goal. When that is reached, we will celebrate as a class again! Students met their 5th grade buddies on the first day of school. We did a story walk together featuring the picture book, Just One You. It has a great message of uniqueness and individuality, being your own person, solving problems, and adding something special to the world. We enjoyed a picnic lunch together as well!
