We enjoyed spending this time with the students. It was a room full of smiles and laughs! Students passed out valentines and enjoyed an afternoon treat of yogurt parfaits. We also played some fun team games and did a great job.
Students are working on writing letters in Writer's Workshop. Students are applying their knowledge by writing letters including all of the parts. Students have been learning how to express their opinions about their favorite books. They are using evidence from the story and linking words to make their letters stronger and longer. Ms. Price is doing a wonderful job!! You can look forward to reading some of their letters at conferences! Their opinions are powerful!
I cannot believe it's February!! We have started to get in the spirit of Valentine's Day. Check out our awesome window art!
Conferences are coming! Please be sure to confirm your time with me. A slip was sent home to do this. Thank you in advance! Thank you to all who have done this already!
Report cards: I hope you had time to review them and celebrate with your child. Please be sure to discuss with them and return the envelope signed. Do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns. CogAT: We will be having an all day cognitive abilities test. A letter will be coming home next week with more information. All second graders in the district will be taking this test. Don't forget about the two reading programs we have going on right now! Students have a chance to earn a FREE Six Flags ticket. As you know, we have entered a new math unit. Students are working hard to use their knowledge of number sense to learn strategies to subtract larger numbers. Students are experiencing productive struggle. I always remind them that frustration means they are learning!! For students who are catching on, they are being encouraged and challenged to solve a problem more than one way. I really enjoy seeing their problem solving at work. A couple strategies are pictured below. Ask your child to try and explain them!
We are so happy that Ms. Price, our student teacher, is finally here to work with us. She is having a great time getting to know the students and is enjoying starting to work with them more closely. She is a great addition to our classroom.
The Six Flags reading program has started. Keep track of your child's reading on the pink log that was sent home. When the goal is reached, send it in with your child. Your child will earn a Six Flags FREE ticket.
Please look for a conference sign-up sheet in your child's folder. Send these back as soon as possible to ensure a conducive time for your schedule. They fill up fast! Thank you! Our student teacher, Ms. Price, will be starting on the 23rd. We are excited to have her. She has come to visit and the students enjoyed meeting her. Please check your child's folder for her letter of introduction. Another form came home regarding video permission. Please send that form (green) back as soon as possible. Let me know if there are any questions. Thank you! We did some space exploration before break. Our main focus was the sun and the moon. We couldn't help our curiosities and do some learning about the planets in our solar system as well. Students learned new vocabulary: orbits, rotates. Students extended their knowledge and applied their new learning with the creation of dioramas.
